A Hat for a Coronation

A Hat Fit for a Coronation.

A thrilling moment of my millinery career has been to create the Headpiece to compliment the outfit for Jodie Haydon, partner of the honourable Prime Minister of Australia, to wear to the Coronation Ceremony of King Charles II and Queen Camilla.

It was indeed a great honour to have the opportunity to showcase my skills and my small local business at such an important historic occasion.

The criteria we discussed was to make a hat that was very comfortable, discreet, elegant, appropriate for the occasion, and in the fabric of her Karen Gee Official Dress that she had custom made.

We chose a beautiful vintage French Beret/Pillbox style Block – one of the favourites blocks in my collection and made a pillbox in the classic traditional style using Buckram as the foundation and a 2 piece sectioned hand stitched covering in the chosen fabric. A simple elegant bow was decided on as the trim. For the lining I chose a beautiful silk fabric from my collection of fabrics from the Injalak Arts Collection - Tingarna – Creation Mother from 2014, and a beautiful matching Petersham ribbon from our collection of vintage millinery ribbons.
